Educational Experience:
The 2017-2018 school year marks my 29th year as an educator.  My first three years as an educator were in a Catholic school and four years ago, more than twenty years later, I returned.  I have taught at the elementary, middle, high and post-secondary levels.  There is something to appreciate and enjoy about every learner of any age, but fifth grade is a truly delightful age.  Can you remember some of the experiences you had at age 10?  You are still a child but becoming increasingly more independent and responsible in your daily life.

Family:
My wife Cindy is a registered nurse and works for Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse.  We enjoy carpooling together each day.  We have three adult daughters.  Sister Teresa Maria F.S.G.M. (Erin) teaches at Saint Cecilia's Middle School in Hastings, NE.   She entered the convent in 2010 and graduated from Franciscan University in 2017.  Kateri, is a graduate of Marquette University, and  teaches at Blessed Sacrament Elementary School in Madison.  She and her husband (Brad) married in August 2015.  Clare graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, May of 2016.  She is employed by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Seven Rivers Region in La Crosse.  She and her husband Nathan married in June 2016.  Nathan is a St. Patrick Elementary alumni.  Clare and Nathan are expecting a baby in early January!  I will allow the kids at Saint Patrick School to call me "Grandpa Leis" for a day or two.  smiley

Free Time:
I enjoy my career as a teacher, but also enjoy volunteering in our local parish and La Crosse community.  On weekends during the winter I volunteer at the Catholic Charities Warming Center in La Crosse.  During the week I tutor adults with literacy needs, through the Coulee Region Literacy Council.  I enjoy reading, landscaping and distance running during the summer months.  I am currently training for my 20th marathon.  Though my wife is not a runner, she does share my enjoyment of snowshoeing.  Cindy and I will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in February.
